SIMON SAYS

CLASSICAL AT THE FREIGHT

As a child in his native Argentina, Coco studied the bandoneón first with his father, then with the prestigious maestro Julio Barboza. He finished his musical studies at the Cuyo National University where he also learned to play the oboe. Coco has accompanied and recorded with many notable artists, including Herb Alphert, Stanly Clark, Plácido Domingo, and Luis Miguel. He has appeared in several films, and now plays with the award-winning show Forever Tango, which has enjoyed great success around the world.

Coco has performed as soloist with many orchestras, including the San Diego Symphony, Santa Barbara Symphony, San Francisco Chamber Orchestra, Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Ancara, Turkey, and New Century Chamber Orchestra. In addition, he participated in the Opera-Tango “ Maria de Buenos Aires”, invited by Third Angle New Music Ensemble in Portland, Oregon. He also performed the same masterpiece with the Victoria, BC, San Diego and Long Beach Opera companies. Coco is currently working on a project of his own orchestration entitled “The Tango and its Evolution,”; this begins with the traditional, "classical" repertory of tango and goes up to tango's greatest composer, Astor Piazzolla. For Coco, this will be an honorable tribute to the man who was his greatest inspiration.
