Great chamber music up close and personal! Hosted by SFCO music director Ben Simon, these monthly one hour concerts feature chamber music masterpieces and explore interesting corners of the classical repertoire, performed by the wonderful musicians of the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra. Come take our monthly Classical Music Trivia Challenge and enjoy chamber music in the unstuffiest venue in the area!

September 29: SFCO All-Stars

Shostakovich, Piano Quintet; featuring Gabriela Frank (Composer in Residence), Robin Sharp and Debra Fong (violins), Ben Simon (viola), and Gianna Abondolo (cello).


October 26: Percussion Fest II

Loren Mach, Chris Froh, Daniel Kennedy, three of the Bay Area’s most talented stick-and-mallet men, are back by popular demand, performing a wide range of chamber music written for percussion.


November 30: The New Esterhazy String Quartet

The Bay Area's favorite baroque string quartet returns to the Freight stage to present a few of their favorite Haydn quartets, culled from their recent survey of his entire output of more than 60 string quartets.


December 14: Gloria Justen & Friends

Introducing composer and SFCO violinist Gloria Justen; the world premiere of her “Double Concerto” is a featured work on our "Double Trouble" concert set.


January 25: Mozart’s Birthday

Our most popular event of the year, with the SFCO All-Stars performing an eclectic assortment of the maestro’s greatest chamber music.


February 22: San Francisco Brass Quintet

The fourth annual return of this fantastic ensemble, the five sterling members of the SFBQ in a stirring program of brass music.


March 29: Bach’s Birthday

The Goldberg Variations, featuring Kay Stern, violin Ben Simon viola and Michelle Djokic cello. You’ve never heard Bach’s keyboard masterpiece sound quite like Dmitri Sitkovetsky’s brilliant arrangement for violin, viola, and cello, performed by three of the Bay Area’s top string players.


April 26: Gabriela Frank and Robin Sharp

A very special evening featuring our composer-in-residence and our wonderful concertmaster performing together and discussing the upcoming world premiere of Gabi’s new violin concerto.


May 17: Quartet Rouge

Classical meets rock 'n' roll! Erin, Darcy, Kathy and Rachel are the babelicious stringplayers behind the Bay Area’s hottest ensemble. These seasoned classical pros come together as Quartet Rouge to bring the thunder with music by METALLICA, MEGADETH, BJORK, Justin Timberlake, Queen, plus music by a pop-star of another era — Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. A must-hear for the iPod generation.
